        Microsoft mobile app contest offers two $25,000 grand prizes

        Microsoft has announced its second annual Mobile2Market Mobile Application Contest. The contest seeks to find the best applications for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and Smartphones, according to the company.


        Two grand prize winners will each receive $25,000 and application distribution.

        Applications must be submitted for logo testing to one of the Mobile2Market logo testing partners by May 31, 2005. The first 300 entries submitted by March 31 are eligible for free logo testing, a $500 value, according to Microsoft. The logo testing partners are:
        • NSTL
        • QualityLogic
        • VeriTest
        Entries are solicited in four categories:
        • Pocket PC, Work
        • Pocket PC, Play
        • Smartphone, Work
        • Smartphone, Play
        In addition to the two grand prize winners, the winner in each category will receive a $5,000 developer prize package as well as featured application promotions. An additional 20 finalists will receive featured promotions through Microsoft's Mobile2Market program.

        According to the contest website, entries will be judged on usability, innovation, marketability, and platform optimization. The official contest rules are here.

        What is Mobile2Market?

        According to Microsoft, Mobile2Market is the certification and distribution program for mobile applications. Mobile2Market helps independent software vendors increase revenue and reduce time-to-market by streamlining application development and logo-testing, and providing distribution channels worldwide, the company says.
