        Microsoft mulls unification of PCs and phones

        CNET reports on Microsoft's emerging strategy to combine real-time communications -- including email, voice, video conferencing, and instant messaging -- on a single software platform.




        Gurdeep Singh Pall, general manager of Microsoft's real-time communications group, reportedly disclosed additional details of the plan while addressing attendees of a New York conference earlier this week. According to the CNET story, Pall said Microsoft is not trying to replace the phone with a PC, but rather is focused on bringing the two productivity devices together by taking advantage of real time communications.
