The latest version of Microsoft's telematics platform -- Windows Automotive -- will be unveiled at the Automotive Executive Summit in Dearborn, MI next week, with a worldwide rollout in Asia and Europe planned for next month, reports Mary Jo Foley in an article at Microsoft Watch.

The upcoming 4.2 upgrade, code-named "McKendric," adds data and voice software profiles, as well as Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and the addition of a version of the .Net Compact Framework to the base OS platform "should make it easier for developers to write Web services for the car, as they will be able to target embedded devices directly, rather than recompile their code to run on an embedded platform" writes Foley.
