Quarterly revenue for the Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD), meanwhile, dropped to $929 million, a decrease of 22 percent year-over-year. In the
previous two quarters, the division had reported substantial revenue increases. On the bottom line, EDD reported a loss of $315 million for the just-completed quarter, compared with $402 million of red ink in the same period last year.
Microsoft attributes the favorable overall Q3 financials to the consumer launches of
Windows Vista and Office 2007. Kevin Turner, Microsoft's COO, commented that the company is "delighted with the positive customer response these products have received."
"I am extremely pleased that we delivered a quarter of strong double-digit growth for revenue, operating income and EPS," said Chris Liddell, Microsoft's chief financial officer. "And I am looking forward to a very good finish to this fiscal year with strength continuing into fiscal 2008."
