        Microsoft releases Smartphone 2003 developer kit

        Microsoft has released the "Windows Mobile 2003-based Smartphone Developer Kit" for use by mobile and wireless application developers. According to Microsoft, the contents of the Smartphone Developer Kit are all that's needed to get started developing, testing, and marketing mobile applications for Smartphone utilizing the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework.


        The kit, which is available at a special price while supplies last, includes both hardware and software -- including a pre-production Smartphone (and accessories), development software, and some extra goodies.

        Microsoft says the new Smartphone 2003 developer kit includes:

        • red e SC1100 Smartphone (pre-commercial device provided by EverLink Wireless)
        • Power Adapter
        • Battery
        • SIM card
        • Hands-free Headset
        • USB Sync Cable

        • Windows Mobile 2003 feature guide
        • The tools you need to begin developing and marketing applications for Windows Mobile-based Smartphones:
          • Visual Studio .NET 2003 60-day trial edition
          • Smartphone 2003 SDK CD, including eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0
          • Microsoft Mobile Development Toolkit, including tools to develop applications for Smartphone 2002
