Specifically, Q1 revenue for the company as a whole was $13.76 billion, a 27 percent increase over the same period in the prior year. Corporate-wide earnings were up from $4.47 billion to $5.92 billion.
EDD revenue for the period was $1.93 billion, up an impressive 91 percent over last year's $1.03 billion. EDD's operating income was $165 million for the quarter, as opposed to a loss of $142 million during the same quarter last year.

Revenue for Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD)
(Source: Microsoft financial report)WindowsForDevices is unable to track Microsoft's mobile and embedded software P&L specifically, however, because in September 2006 the company merged its Mobile and Embedded Devices (MED) and Home and Entertainment divisions into a single group, the Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD). Back when the two divisions merged into EDD, MED represented around a seventh of EDD's combined revenue.
Inevitably making the MED division unit feel like the wagging tail on a large dog, 1.8 million Xbox 360 game consoles were sold during the quarter, according to Microsoft. Sales were buoyed by the highly anticipated launch of the Xbox 360 game Halo 3 on Sept. 25, just days before the quarter's close. In its first 24 hours on sale, the game became the fastest-selling video game in history, bringing in $170 million in sales, Microsoft said.
Microsoft CFO Chris Liddell stated, "This fiscal year is off to an outstanding start with the fastest revenue growth of any first quarter since 1999. Operating income growth of over 30% also reflects our ability to translate revenue into profits while making strategic investments for the future."
Perhaps giving more of a clue to the company's enterprise fortunes, Microsoft said its Business division (including Office, SharePoint, and United Communications) grew 20 percent year-over-year. Server and Tools revenue (Windows Server, SQL Server, etc.) grew 16 percent year-over-year, while Client revenue (Windows Vista, XP) grew by 20 percent, driven by "PC market strength and legalization," according to the company.
