Taiwanese industrial PC-maker Commell has introduced what appears to be one of the first mini-ITX boards to support Intel's quad-core processors. The LV-676 accommodates up to 3GB of onboard memory and targets "graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching programs."

The LV-676 is built with Intel's updated Q965GMCH Express chipset, and supports many processors in its LGA775 socket -- including the Intel Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo with Virtualization Technology, as well as the Intel Pentium D and Pentium 4 processors, according to Commell. The chipset also is said to support wider internal data buses for dual-channel DDR2 memory running at 800 MHz.

Commell lists the following additional features and specifications for the LV-676:
        • Memory -- two DDRII 533/667/800 MHz DIMM socket, for up to 3 GB of RAM
        • Display:
          • extreme GMA 3000Graphic Media Accelerator
          • up to 384 MB of video memory shared with system memory
          • choice of dual-channel LVDS or DVI video output
        • Storage:
          • 6 serial ATA up to 300 MB/s
          • supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, and Intel Matrix Storage Technology
        • I/O ports:
          • 2 gigabit Ethernet
          • 6 USB 2.0 -- 4 external, 2 internal
          • 2 IEEE 1394 Firewire
          • 2 serial -- external RS232, internal RS232/422/485
          • PS/2 keyboard and mouse
          • audio -- line-in, line-out, mic-in. Front, rear, center/subwoofer and side outputs
        • Expansion -- 1 PCI slot, 1 mini-PCI socket
The LV-676 mini-ITX board appears to be immediately available. The board appears to be available from British distributor BVM's online store, currently priced around $410 to $420, depending on display driver options.
