Mio is set to preview its first Windows Mobile smartphone with built-in GPS, according to a story at The Register, a UK-based technology website. The A701 is said to run Windows Mobile 5 on a 520 MHz Intel PXA270 processor with 192 MB of total memory.

According to The Register, the "stylish candybar handset" sports a 2.7 inch QVGA display and a 1.3 megapixel camera in addition to its tri-band GSM/GPRS, GPS, and Bluetooth functionality.

"Mio is pitching the A701 as a phone with PDA functionality, rather than the other way round," writes Tony Smith. "It's certainly better looking than the iPaq hw6500 series," Smith opines.
