        Mio's latest Windows Mobile PDA boasts enhanced GPS

        Mio Technology has introduced a new Windows Mobile based Pocket PC with a built-in GPS receiver. The Mio 168RS includes MioMap navigation software that provides detailed street and address coverage of the continental United States, Hawaii, and Canada, according to the company.

        The 168RS is a follow-on to the Mio 168 introduced in November, 2003. The new device features a substantially improved and enhanced GPS receiver, according to a company spokesperson.

        The company says its MioMap navigation software provides both verbal and visual real-time directions to selected destinations. Additionally, in the event that the user takes a wrong turn, or otherwise gets lost, the software automatically suggests an alternate route. MioMap is said to include "millions" of points of interest including restaurants, lodging, gas stations, airports, and more.

        Mio lists the following key features and specifications for the 168RS:
        • Processor -- 300 MHz Intel XScale
        • Memory -- 64MB SDRAM; 32MB Flash ROM
        • Operating system -- Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003, Second Edition
        • Display:
          • 3.5-inch 240 x 320 pixel, 65K-color transflective LCD
          • LED backlight
          • Landscape or portrait orientation
          • Resistive touchscreen
        • Expansion -- SD/MMC card slot with SDIO compatibility
        • I/O ports:
          • USB 1.1 client for ActiveSync
          • IrDA (SIR), consumer IR (4 meters)
          • Audio
            • Built-in microphone and speaker
            • 2.5 mm headphone jack
            • Supports MP3 and Media Player formats
        • Dimensions -- 112.8 x 69.6 x 16.3 mm (4.4 x 2.7 x 0.64 inches)
        • Weight -- 147 g
        Price and Availability

        The suggested retail price for the Mio 168RS is $599. Mio's website lists several Internet retailers that carry the device.
