Geodesic Information Systems has updated its cross-platform, multi-service mobile instant messaging (IM) client. Mundu IM V4, which currently supports Windows Mobile 5 smartphones and will soon add Pocket PCs, communicates via multiple popular IM services on a single "user-friendly" interface, according to the...

Geodesic says that Mundu works with AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber IM services. Additionally, it offers "cross-conferencing" capabilities across AIM, MSN, and Yahoo IM services through a single chat window. The client also supports "instant sharing" of photos and videos from cameraphones, using IM services.

According to Geodesic VP of business development Anish Srivastava, "As Internet enabled smart phones emerge to be vital tools for today's consumer, instant messaging (IM) on mobile devices is becoming a standard mode of communication for consumers and professionals alike. Mundu recognizes that users are spread across different IM services and aims to unite them with a single interface across services, and mobile devices."

Mundu IM V4 currently supports Windows Mobile 5 smartphones and Palm OS devices. Support will be added soon for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Symbian Series 60 platforms, the company says.

During an "initial promotion period" Mundu IM V4 can be purchased for a one-time charge of $11 with no per-message charges, Geodesic said. A 5-day free trial download is available here.
