Mimer Information Technology is readying a new version of its SQL database for mobile devices. Mimer SQL Mobile 9.3, due before July, adds a host of features aimed at making the product work better on mobile phones, the company said.

Mimer claims its SQL Mobile database to be the first mobile phone database with "enterprise class" features, listing "full SQL, non-locking multi-user access, and multilingual support."

New with the 9.3 release of Mimer SQL Mobile are:
        • "Union" between tables stored on internal and removable storage devices allows transparent updates upon card insertion
        • Dynamic RAM allocation -- maximal during build-up, minimal when idle
        • "Automatic upgrade" updates by replacing a single file and restarting the database, after which "all changes to the database" are applied
More technical details about Mimer Mobile SQL 9.3 can be found here.

Stefan Eck, marketing director, stated, "The need for an efficient and scalable SQL database is becoming more and more obvious."

        Availability

Mimer SQL Mobile 9.3 will be released by the end of June 2007, according to Mimer.

The company also maintains a non-mobile version that supports Windows, Linux and other Unix platforms, as well as Mac OS X, and OpenVMS.
