Intellisync has announced a mobile messaging platform that integrates a broad spectrum of communication formats into a single easy-to-use interface on mobile phones and PDAs. The Unified Messaging platform extends Intellisync's wireless email...

platform to include "presence services," IM and SMS messaging, and voicemail, according to the company.

Unified Messaging client software is available for devices running Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone, Palm OS, and Symbian operating systems, according to Intellisync. The email application built into the platform supports Microsoft Exchange and Outlook, IBM Lotus Domino and Notes, and Internet email from providers like Comcast, Earthlink, and AOL. The architecture also supports industry standard communications protocols including POP3, IMAP, and SyncML.

Users can send email, SMS, or instant messages, make phone calls, check voicemail, set up a meeting in the calendar, or look up contacts -- all from within a single unified UI. The platform's "presence" capability informs the user when other users are available and willing to communicate. The application even recommends the best way to communicate with others, based on their preferred communications method at a given time. The contacts screen (shown here) indicates the communication modes available for each contact, and shows whether there are unread emails or missed calls from each. The "buttons" in the row along the bottom of the screen are used to choose which way to communicate with a selected contact.

"The new and enhanced Intellisync solution is designed to provide wireless carriers with a service to increase their ARPU (average revenue per user) and create 'sticky' customer relationships. We continue to be the main white-label solution for a number of carriers worldwide including Verizon Wireless, Equant/France Telecom and Vivo," said Intellisync CEO Woody Hobbs.

The core technology of the Unified Messaging platform is expected to be available for enterprises and for wireless carriers in November, according to Intellisync.
