        Mobile processor family supports high-end multimedia

        Samsung Electronics has announced that its S3C2400 series of "mobile application processors" are powering HP's new line of iPAQ Mobile Media Companion devices. The processors boast leading edge on-chip functions such as a camera interface, TFT and STN LCD display support, SD/MMC/SDIO card control, USB host and device ports, and a touch-screen interface, and are compatible with Microsoft's Windows CE...


        operating system and its derivatives, according to Samsung.

        The S3C2410 and S3C2440 processors both feature an 16/32-bit ARM920T RISC CPU core, and are implemented in 0.18um and 0.13um CMOS technology, respectively. Additionally, the processors include on-chip NAND Flash memory which can contain system initialization and boot-loader software without requiring additional support chips.

        The HP iPAQ rx3115 and rx3715 are based on the S3C2440, while the rz1715 uses the S3C2410. Further details on HP's new iPAQ rx3000 Mobile Media Companions are here.
