Sybase subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions has added a secure instant messaging (IM) and presence component to its mobile applications suite that was first announced in March. Information Anywhere Mobile IM aims to address enterprise demands for increased collaboration within a controlled, secure...

        environment.

According to iAnywhere, Mobile IM enables enterprises to easily deploy secure instant messaging and presence functions on mobile devices. The company says its technology provides a single application through which users can access leading enterprise and public IM platforms from various devices running Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0, among other embedded OSes.

Key capabilities of Mobile IM include message routing, as well as auditing and archiving function compatibility; the latter are important for compliance with various regulatory requirements, the company said.

Supported enterprise class IM systems are said to include IBM Lotus Sametime, Microsoft Office Live Communications Server, Jabber XCP, Jabber Wildfire, and Reuters Messaging; supported "public instant messaging networks" include Google Talk and Jabber, via XMPPd, the company said.

iAnywhere VP of engineering Joe Owen stated, "With mobility comes responsibility. Businesses must take measures to protect corporate information wherever it resides, particularly with widespread usage of unmonitored consumer instant messaging services at work."
