iAnywhere's
Information Anywhere suite, first announced in March, comprises a family of mobile email, collaboration, device management, enterprise-to-edge security, and back-office application extension capabilities, according to the company. Overall, it features "comprehensive cross-platform support" for Windows Mobile, Palm, RIM BlackBerry, and Symbian mobile devices, the company says.

Sybase's iAnywhere suite market-ecture diagramiAnywhere says the new access control is available as part of the Information Anywhere suite's Security Manager component. According to the company, the technology allows IT managers to:
- Deny Microsoft Exchange email synchronization requests by handheld devices that are not properly managed and/or secured by the Security Manager component
- Define a security verification policy on the Security Manager console
- Create a "white list" of users who should always be allowed to synchronize with Exchange, even if their device fails the security verification policy
- Create a "black list" of users who should never be allowed to synchronize with Exchange
Quoted in iAnywhere's statement, Jack Gold, president of consulting firm
J. Gold Associates, said, "It is imperative that enterprises provide a way to block unapproved devices."
