(Click here for larger image)The HC700-L features a 416 MHz PXA270 processor with 64 or 128 MB each of SDRAM and Flash. Other features include a color touch-screen display, mini SD card, an omni-directional area imager for 1D/2D barcode imaging, and both WiFi and Bluetooth wireless communications. Motorola says the unit is designed and tested to military environmental specifications.
The device will run either Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition or Windows CE, according to Motorola. The company offers a sofware development kit to facilitate custom application development.
The HC700-L is the first in a family of HC700 rugged handhelds. Additional models will be released early next year featuring a wide array of communications options including GSM/GPRS and Nextel's iDEN/WiDEN service with push-to-talk, the company said. The iDEN models will also support GPS-based location services.
