ArcSoft Inc. demonstrated "feature-rich" multimedia messaging technologies aimed at device designs powered by Texas Instruments (TI) OMAPV1030 and OMAP 2 processors, this week at the Computex show in Taipei. In particular, ArcSoft's support for the OMAPV1030 is based on its "TotalMedia Mobile for Windows Mobile" product, the company said.

ArcSoft describes TotalMedia for Windows Mobile as a suite of customizable components -- including "codecs, OMA-enabled technologies, and fully integrated applications" -- that can be used by device-makers to implement feature-rich multimedia messaging on Windows Mobile-based devices. Additionally, "because TotalMedia is built on Windows Mobile's plug-n-play architecture, it ensures full compatibility with Microsoft and other third-party applications," the company states.

        TI's OMAPV1030 SoC

TI claims that the OMAPV1030 SoC (system-on-chip) can provide smartphone capabilities "at feature phone costs," as a result of its high level of integration, "aggressive" process technology, and "better" system partitioning.

The dual-core (RISC/DSP) SoC is based on TI's OMAP1710 architecture, and integrates an ARM926TEJ core plus a TI DSP, along with a wide range of connectivity options including support for GSM, GPRS, and EDGE communications.

        TotalMedia features

Key features of TotalMedia Mobile running on TI's OMAP processors, according to ArcSoft, include:
        • Integrated multimedia framework supporting software and DSP-based codecs
        • Functions included -- player, camcorder, still image capture, media browser, video editor, photo editor
        • Optimized codecs -- MPEG-4 Simple Profile/H.263 baseline encoder and decoder; H.264 baseline decoder; WMV-9 decoder; MP3, AAC-LC, HE-AAC, HE-AAC Plus, OGG, WMA decoders; MIDI synthesizer; baseline JPEG encoder and decoder
        • Advanced camera technology -- anti-Shaking; smart De-Noise; smile detection; blink detection; dynamic lighting; FaceTracking
        • Minimal RAM requirements
ArcSoft's VP of marketing and business development, Michael Downs, stated, "TotalMedia Mobile's combination of multimedia functions and optimized software-based codecs make it a great fit for both [TI's] 'LoCosto' platform and the OMAPV1030. As a member of the Texas Instruments Wireless Ecosystem, we are pleased to be expanding our cooperation with TI to include support for the OMAPV1030 and OMAP 2 processors."

TotalMedia for Windows Mobile on TI OMAPV1030 appears to be immediately available. Pricing was not disclosed.
