NTT DoCoMo announced their newest handheld PC, the Sigmarion III, a "mobile mini-PC" that can be used for sending and receiving emails, browsing the web, and other PDA-like functions. The device boasts a 5-inch, 800 x 480 pixel color TFT LCD, with display quality that is said to approach that of standard notebook PCs.

The Sigmarion III is powered by a Windows CE .NET 4.1 software platform, running on a 400 MHz Intel PXA255 XScale processor equipped with 64MB RAM and 32MB ROM. Its dimensions are 7.5 4.6 .8 in. and it weighs approximately 1 lb. Input/ouput ports include IrDA and USB, and there are slots for both CompactFlash and SDIO/MMC expansion cards. Software reportedly includes Microsoft's Media Player for Windows CE.

Launched in September 2000, the Sigmarion series of "mobile mini-PCs" are described as combining PC-like functionality with mobile capabilities. The Sigmarion III can reportedly be used wirelessly via DTT CoCoMo's Personal Handyphone System (PHS), 2G (PDC), 3G, and other wireless systems.

NTT DoCoMo said it expects the Sigmarion III to become available in Japan in May, 2003.
