        Thin client supports dual displays

The U.K. firm Netvoyager announced a thin client that runs Windows Embedded Standard 2009 and provides dual-display support, with both VGA and DVI outputs. The Neterm XP1032 has 1GB of DDR2 RAM and 1GB of flash storage, a gigabit Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 ports, plus smart card reader and Wi-Fi options, the company says.

According to Netvoyager, its Neterm XP1032 uses just 25 Watts, and is suitable for replacing power-hungry PCs in applications such as call centers, education, health care, and retail. The device's "powerful 3D graphics engine" allows connecting dual displays via its VGA and DVI ports, with resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 pixels, the company adds.

Netvoyager says the Neterm XP1032's front panel (right) includes two USB 2.0 ports, a microphone input, and a speaker output. The rear panel, meanwhile, has the aforementioned video outputs, plus dual PS/2 ports for a keyboard and mouse, as well as two additional USB ports.

Also on the back of the device is its gigabit Ethernet port, according to the company. A smart card reader and wireless local area networking are available hardware add-ins, says Netvoyager.

It's said the Neterm XP1032 runs Windows Embedded Standard 2009 on a 1.6GHz Via Eden, with the CN896 northbridge and VT8237S southbridge. The device includes 1GB of DDR2 RAM and 1GB of flash storage, Netvoyager adds.

According to Netvoyager, the Neterm XP1032 includes remote session support for Microsoft, Citrix, VMware, 2X, Ericom, NoMachine, Unix, and Linux servers. The embedded Internet Explorer browser is touted as providing the XP1032 with independent internet access whilst supporting Adobe Flash, Shockwave, Java, PDF and MS Office file viewers.

Netvoyager adds that with its Win32 applications compatibility, Windows Embedded Standard 2009 makes it easy for enterprises to bake custom applications and drivers into their thin clients. The operating system also lets the device support advanced virtualization technology such as Citrix's HDX (high definition user experience) and VMWare's PCoIP, the company says.

Netvoyager also offers the Neterm LX1032, a thin client that includes mostly the same hardware -- the CPU is said to be a Via C7 instead of an Eden -- but runs Linux instead of Windows Embedded Standard 2009. This version apparently cannot offer HDX or PCoIP support, but supports Microsoft, Citrix, NoMachine, Ericom, VNC, and X11, Unix, and Linux servers, along with SSH and terminal emulation, the company says. As one would expect, the embedded browser on this model is Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.

Features and specifications listed by Netvoyager for the Neterm XP1032 (and LX1032) include:
