Royal Philips Electronics will debut a new IP set-top box (STB) reference platform at IFA 2005 in Berlin next week. The STB810 IP-STB targets IP and broadcast STBs with "advanced features such as video telephony, picture improvement algorithms, time-shift recording, DVD...

playback, storage, and personal video recording," Philips said.

The STB810 development kit is based on the company's Nexperia PNX855x Home Entertainment Engine, a multi-core system-on-chip (SoC) processor that includes a MIPS32 CPU core along with dual TriMedia media processing cores.

According to Philips, the STB810 has already been designed into a new ODM/OEM (original design manufacturer / original equipment manufacturer) IP-STB platform by TeleGent GmbH. TeleGent's Evolution1 ODM/OEM STB runs Windows CE 5.0 and supports content playback from both cable and wireless IP sources.

The STB810 STB reference platform is available with a choice of Windows CE or embedded Linux operating systems, Philips said.
