        Next-generation Pocket PC, Smartphone details emerge

        An article at the Guardian reveals details disclosed by Microsoft at last week's "European Mobility Developer Conference" regarding the next generation of its Pocket PC and Smartphone OSes (based on CE .NET 4.2).




        Code-named "Ozone", Pocket PC will become more of a "component of a business IT infrastructure," as opposed to merely serving as a "personal electronic diary," through the addition of new or enhanced technologies for VPN access, wireless communications, web services, remote device management, ADO.NET database connection, MSMQ reliable message queueing, and web browsing, the article said. MS Smartphone's next release is said to be further out, but will share many features with Ozone.

        Both variants will benefit from the arrival of the .NET Compact Framework, giving developers the ability to create apps in the familiar Visual Studio development environment, the story notes.
