The Lumia 800 had been widely anticipated under its "Sea Ray" code name, while the companion Lumina 710 had been leaked as the "Sabre." There's still no official word of a third "Ace" device, rumored to include both a 4.3-inch screen and a slide-out keyboard.

In these days of feature-packed handsets, the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 lack one item customers have come to expect, even if it doesn't actually get much use: a front-facing webcam for videoconferencing. Two other Windows Phone 7.5 ("Mango") phones, HTC's Titan and Radar, do have webcams, demonstrating that the operating system can support them.
The Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 also lack HDMI outputs or any other way of supporting video. Rumors that these first Nokia Windows Phones would include NFC (near field communication) have proven to be unfounded, too.
However, Nokia is emphasizing photography with the Lumia 800, stressing the phone's Carl Zeiss optics (with F2.2 sensitivity) and eight megapixel sensor. The Lumia 700 drops the Zeiss branding and makes do with five megapixels (F2.4), but it, too, can record HD video at 30 frames per second, with a 3x digital zoom feature, according to the company.
Both handsets come with a 3.7-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The 800 uses AMOLED (active matrix organic LED) technology, while the 710 has a TFT (thin-film transistor) screen, according to Nokia.
The Lumia 800 is offered in black, magenta, or cyan, while the Lumia 710 has a black or white faceplate, plus a removable battery cover that's offered in blue, cyan, white, yellow, or black. Meanwhile, the three buttons below the 800's touchscreen use capacitive technology, while those on the 710 employ physical switches.

As pictured above, the unibody Lumia 800 measures 4.6 x 2.4 x 0.47 inches, while the Lumia 710 measures 4.7 x 2.45 x 0.5 inches. Weights are 5 and 4.4 ounces, respectively.
Both phones of course include the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (here, 2.1) and GPS capabilities -- plus dual microphones and an array of sensors -- and both are powered by 1.4GHz, single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 processors. These are the fastest CPUs that are currently compliant with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 hardware specifications.

According to Nokia, the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 both have 512MB of RAM. There's 16GB of flash storage on the 800, and 8GB on the 710, the company adds -- but neither device has a microSD expansion slot.
