Webaroo has extended its offline web search service to support handheld devices running Windows Mobile 5.0. The company says its combination of software and advertiser-supported service provide a "fast and ubiquitous web search experience on mobile devices with no connection at all."

Webaroo features "web packs" on a variety of subjects, such as world news, soccer/football, major cities, the Wikipedia and more, according to the company. Each web pack contains "thousands of relevant web pages" identified by Webaroo's servers as being of "high quality, broad coverage, and small size." Web packs can be downloaded free from the company's web site. Webaroo says it also plans to bundle web packs with the BenQ-Siemens P51 smartphone scheduled for release in the third quarter.

Handhelds can receive "web packs" directly from Webaroo's servers when connected to the Internet, or by syncing with a laptop or PC

Webaroo servers crawl the web, analyze web pages, and select a subset of pages that maximizes "content density," i.e. the most content value in the least storage size, according to the company.

Web pack content is updated whenever a device is connected to the Internet. Alternatively, users can select and download favorite web sites by syncing a handheld device to a laptop or PC. The saved sites can then be searched on the mobile devices while they are offline, Webaroo says.

According to Webaroo co-founder Brad Husick, "Smartphone owners are typically advanced users who actively seek out innovative software for all their mobile devices. Our mission is to provide the best mobile search experience possible anywhere in the world and we are happy to now support Windows Mobile 5.0 users and BenQ-Siemens P51 phone customers."
