Developer Doug Turner has released a new version of the open-source mini-Mozilla (MiniMo) browser for handheld devices. MiniMo version 0.13 includes better support for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, along with several new features and bug fixes, according to Turner.

Two key enhancements in version 0.13, according to Turner, are a redesigned user interface along with a "HomeBase" sidebar (see above screenshot) that offers easy access to common mobile applications.

The MiniMo project, which has focused on porting Mozilla to small consumer devices, aims to minimize code-size and runtime footprint while maximizing small-screen usability, according to the project's home page. The project was launched early last year, when Turner announced that he was working on a port of Minimo to Windows CE and issued a general call to Windows CE developers to help out in the effort.

The new release is available here in two forms -- an installer that runs from a desktop PC, and a CAB installer that can be downloaded directly to a Windows Mobile device. Turner cautions that previous versions must be completely removed manually before upgrading to the new version.
