Voxware describes VoxBrowser as a thin-client built on open systems and a web-centric, standards-based platform. It includes the Voxware Integrated Speech Engine (VISE), designed for demanding, high-noise industrial environments, as well as a text-to-speech (TTS) engine. The package "offers superior flexibility and interfaces readily to any WMS, ERP or warehouse distribution application," according to the company.
VoiceXML is a markup language for creating voice user interfaces that use automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech synthesis (TTS), according to the
VoiceXML Forum, an industry trade group. The group claims that more than 10,000 commercial VoiceXML-based speech applications have been deployed across a diverse set of industries since the first version of the standard was delivered to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in May of 2000.
VoxBrowser "reaffirms our commitment to advanced, platform independent, open, standards-based software," said Tom Drury, Voxware CEO. "The days of expensive and proprietary solutions are over. By eliminating the barriers to entry, VoxBrowser will, for the first time, allow any CIO or logistics industry solution provider to deliver high quality, robust, thin-client voice solutions."
The company also announced VoxManager 1.0, a web-based program that configures user access and administers the voice-enabled devices powered by Voxware. VoxManager 1.0 and VoxBrowser are available immediately, according to Voxware.
