Orange, a major wireless service provider in Europe, has introduced a new Smartphone running Windows Mobile 2003 in France. The myS-7 is supplied by Sagem of France, although several sources say the device is manufactured by Mitac in Taiwan.

The myS-7 features the so-called "candy bar" style design and boasts dual polyphonic speakers and a 176x220 pixel, 65K color TFT display. It plays Windows Media audio and video files and MP3 music, and supports seamless over-the-air synchronization of email, calender, and contacts with Microsoft Exchange Server.

Hardware details are somewhat sketchy. The device reportedly has 32MB of RAM, but the processor isn't specified. The tri-band phone supports GPRS (4+1) and its connectivity options include an integral modem and an infrared port -- but oddly, the device appears to lack the increasingly popular Bluetooth. Two welcome features are a built-in VGA resolution camera and an SD/MMC card slot.

        Orange says the myS-7's rechargeable Li-Ion 1050 mAh battery provides 3 hours of operation. The device weights 120 gm (4.2 oz) and measures 10.9 x 4.9 x 2.1 cm (4.3 x 1.9 x .8 inches).

Application software reportedly includes an Internet browser and a Java 2.0 virtual machine, along with the usual complement of calender, contacts, and email apps.
