        PXA270-based reference platform runs Windows CE 5.0

        E-con Systems is nearing production of a reference platform based on Intel's PXA270 XScale processor, with support for Windows CE 5.0.         The Sirius platform features a 520 MHz PXA270 processor with 128 or 256 MB of SDRAM and 32 or 64 MB of NOR Flash. NAND Flash is also supported, according to the company. The optional touchscreen LCD supports resolutions from 320 x 240 to 800 x 600.

        E-con lists the following key features and specifications for the Sirius reference platform:
        • Processor -- 520 MHz Intel PXA270
        • Memory -- 128 or 256 MB of SDRAM, 32 or 64 MB of NOR Flash
        • Display -- LCD with touchscreen. Supported resolutions -- 320 x 240, 640 x 480, 800 x 600
        • Expansion:
          • CompactFlash slot
          • SD/MMC slot
          • IDE interface
        • Input/output interfaces:
          • 10/100 Ethernet
          • Dual serial ports
          • Dual USB -- 1 host, 1 client
          • Bluetooth
          • WiFi supported through CF slot
        • Audio -- Line in/out, mic in
        • Video camera interface
        • Dimensions -- 6.2 x 4.4 inches (157 x 112 mm)
        Availability

        According to E-con, the Sirius reference platform with basic Windows CE 5.0 support will begin shipping during the first quarter of this year. "Production-quality" applications running on Windows CE 5.0 are expected to be available by end of the second quarter. The company says it can customize the platform to meet specific customer requirements.
