The Palm Developer Network (PDN) replaces the company's prior program, and now includes both Palm OS and Windows Mobile Pocket PC developers, according to Palm.
Palm says the new program provides focused technical, business, and marketing support. Services to PDN include a support library, to answer developer questions; and a "Designed For Palm Products" compatibility test and logo program, to help developers validate that mobile applications their are compatible with Palm devices.
The "Designed For Palm Products" service executes a suite of compatibility tests appropriate for a mobile application running on Palm devices configured for typical customer usage, according to Palm. Compatible applications are awarded rights to use the "Designed For Palm Products" logo, and are eligible for premium product promotion and sale through various Palm stores, such as
Software Connection and
Addit.
Compatibility testing is performed by an independent third-party mobile testing firm, Quality Partners, for a "nominal fee," Palm says.
Additional services are available for members of Palm's "Select Developer Program" -- an invitation-only group of "top developers" who "consistently deliver highly valued consumer or business applications to customers worldwide," according to Palm. Select developers have access to additional premium technical, marketing and sales services.
