It's official! The long-awaited Palm Treo 700w running Windows Mobile 5.0 is now available exclusively from Verizon. The first Palm handheld to run Windows Mobile is specifically designed to run on Verizon's high speed EvDO (Evolution Data Optimized) data network, according to Palm.

As reported last week, the Treo 700w is being touted as one of the hottest new products at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The buzz has been building ever since the 3-way debut by Microsoft, Palm, and Verizon in late September (photo at right).

Palm has also released final hardware specifications for the device. As expected, the Treo 700w resembles its predecessor, the Treo 650. In comparison to the 650, some specs are upgraded -- more memory and a higher resolution camera, for example -- but at least one is disappointing: a lower resolution screen.
