Aaeon has announced a new "panel PC" running Windows XP Embedded, and aimed at industrial human-machine interface (HMI) applications. The AOP-8080XT is based on an Intel Celeron M processor and has an 8-inch SVGA touchscreen display, according to the company.

The photo above shows the AOP-8080XT's front bezel and display, plus a portion of its ventilated metal case, which hangs from the back and extends 2.5 inches to the rear. On the bottom of this are typical PC-style I/O ports, including an RJ-45 LAN connector, USB ports, serial ports, PS/2 keyboard/mouse connectors, and VGA output for a second display.

According to Aaeon, the device comes with solid-state storage and preinstalled Windows XP Embedded. It is also capable of accepting a hard disk drive instead, and offers an externally accessible Type II CompactFlash slot for further expansion.

The AOP-8080XT is available with a choice of 1.3 GHz or 600 MHz Celeron M processors, and standard 256 MB or 512 MB RAM complements. When configured with the 600 MHz CPU, the device does not require a fan, Aaeon says.

Options include wallmount and DIN rail kits, plus a 50W AC adapter that supplies the 5V DC required by the panel PC.
