(Click here for a larger view of the Avalue FPC-22W02)The largest model in a range of "FPC" systems that begins with a 15.4-inch screen, the FPC-22W02 has a 22-inch screen with five-wire resistive touchscreen technology. Aimed at POS (point of service) and digital signage applications, the device not only offers integral 1680 x 1050 resolution, but also supports an additional monitor via both DVI and VGA ports.
The FPC-22W02 is said to use Intel's
GME965, with the 82GME965 GMCH (graphics memory controller hub) and ICH-8M memory controller. These parts support installation of the chipmaker's 65nm "Santa Rosa" Core Solo, Core Duo, and Core 2 Duo CPUs, according to Avalue, which did not cite potential clock speeds.
The panel PC has two 200-pin SODIMM sockets that support a total of 4GB of DDR2 RAM. As for mass storage, the device has a HDD (hard drive bay) and SATA port that is capable of accepting either 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives. For those who prefer solid-state storage, there's also a Type 2 CompactFlash socket.
In addition to the VGA and DVI ports already mentioned, the FPC-22W02 has two gigabit Ethernet interfaces with RJ45 conectors. It also includes three serial ports, six USB 2.0 ports -- if that's not enough, a further two are optional -- and dual PS/2 connectors for a keyboard and mouse.

(Click to enlarge)As a useful byproduct of its 21.15 x 13.46 x 3.89 inch dimensions (see above), the FPC-22W02 has a PCI expansion slot, though Avalue did not specify whether or not the slot is full-length. The device may be attached to VESA-compatible stands or wall mounts, as long as its 23-pound weight is adequately supported. It is also suitable for in-wall mounting, Avalue says.

Avalue also did not cite operating system support. However, previous panel PCs from this manufacturer have supported both Windows XP Embedded and Windows CE.
