        Panel PCs have cashdrawer ports

Taiwanese vendor Puritron has announced three panel PCs with 1GHz Intel Celeron ULV processors and water-resistant, stainless steel front panels. Targeting POS (point of sales/service) applications, the PT-120PF, PT-150PF, and PT-170PF offer touchscreen displays, fanless operation, plus cashdrawer...

and dual Ethernet ports, according to the company.

Unlike another recently announced trio of panel PCs, Aaeon's Fox-80, Fox-120, and Fox-150, Puritron's ports are not sealed on every surface. Still, their front panels are said to meet the IP54 standard for resistance to liquids.

According to Puritron, the devices contain unspecified mini-ITX motherboards internally, and are capable of fanless operation. They use Intel's 1GHz Celeron ULV CPU, with a 400MHz frontside bus and without second-level cache, plus the 852GM northbridge and ICH4 southbridge, the company says.

All three panel PCs accept up to 1GB of 266MHz DDR memory, via a single 184-pin DIMM slot. They also include internal 2.5-inch, 40GB hard disk drives. Unlike on many competing designs, there are apparently no CompactFlash slots or other ways to add solid-state storage without an adapter.

As their names clearly imply, the PT-120PF has a 12-inch touchscreen display; the PT-150PF has a 15-inch display; and the PT-170PF has a 17-inch display. On the two smaller units, resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels, while the largest of the three extends to 1280 x 1024, Puritron says.

The devices make their POS intentions clear by including a cashdrawer port. Also onboard each panel PC are dual 10/100 Ethernet ports, VGA outputs, four USB ports, three serial ports, dual PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse, and audio mic/line in and line out jacks.

Features and specifications listed by Puritron for the PT-120PF, PF-150PF, and PT-170PF include:

Puritron did not list availability, or operating system support for the PT-120PF, PT-150PF, or PT-170PF. According to U.K. distributor BVM Limited, whose announcement first alerted us to the products, however, the systems are available now with Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, or Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS).
