Advantech has released a touch panel computer that features a CAN (controller area network) fieldbus interface. The TPC-68T is "cost-effective" and can be used as a thin client or for HMI (human machine interface) applications, according to the company.

The TPC-68T features a 5.6-inch touchscreen display with 320 x 236 pixel resolution. It runs Windows CE (version not specified) on a Marvell PXA270 processor clocked at 416MHz, and is stocked with 64MB of RAM and 64MB of flash, Advantech says.

The device operates without a fan, and has an enclosure made of "tough" ABS plastic. At the rear are its I/O ports, which include USB 1.1 host and client ports, 2 RS-232 serial ports, and a CAN-bus/RS-485 port. The rear panel also provides access to a CompactFlash slot.
