Arcom has added a Windows XP Embedded option to its family of "ready-to-run" hardware/software development kits for the Apollo EBX single-board computer (SBC). The kit includes a "comprehensive" build of Windows XP Embedded SP2 pre-installed on a 1GB industrial grade CompactFlash memory card, according to Arcom.

The development kit also includes a time-limited evaluation version of Microsoft's Windows XP Embedded Studio and Target Designer. This allows developers to evaluate the Microsoft tools and create a customized operating system image using the component library supplied on the DVD, Arcom says. The resulting image can be programmed and run from the CompactFlash card.

The kit is based on Arcom's Apollo EBX SBC equipped with a 1.6GHz Pentium M CPU with 512MB of DDR memory, according to Arcom. The 5.75 x 8 inch EBX format Apollo SBC includes the following key features and functions:
        • 1.6GHz Pentium M CPU
        • 512MB DDR memory
        • CRT and LVDS LCD video output
        • Dual Ethernet with gigabit option on one channel
        • Six USB 2.0 channels
        • Four serial ports (RS-232/RS-422/RS-485)
        • Dual FireWire (IEEE 1394a) ports
In addition to the Apollo SBC and Windows XP Embedded on the 1GB CF card, the kit also includes in the kit is an AC Flex-ATX power supply and full cable set, Quickstart Manual, Development Kit DVD, and a USB/CF programming adapter. A panel-mounted 15-inch TFT color LCD screen with analog touchscreen is offered as an extra-cost option.
