Sirit has announced a family of cost-effective, plug-and-play SDIO- and USB-based multi-protocol RFID readers. The readers are easy to install, without complex procedures, in Windows Mobile smartphones and Pocket PCs, and in Windows-based laptop PCs, according to the company.

Sirit says its Plug-n-Play RFID product line uses patent-pending technology to support a broad range of 13.56 MHz transponders, tags, and smart labels including ISO 14443A/B, ISO 15693, ISO 18000-3, INSIDE PicoTag, HID iClass, Tagsys C320, FeliCa, and eNFC.

Both the "hockey puck" USB form, shown above, and the SDIO card, at right, are offered in three versions -- Lite, Premium, and CommerceNow -- that range in price from $99 to $119 and differ in the range of supported protocols. Sirit also offers a variety of software development tools and sample applications to support the readers.

"Sirit's Plug-n-Play RFID products enable virtually any device with an SDIO or USB slot to effortlessly become a multi-protocol, high frequency (13.56 MHz) RFID reader and writer," commented Chris Leong, Sirit's VP of Strategy and Corporate Development. "The plug and play nature of this new Sirit product line eliminates the complexity of RFID integration thus expanding RFID beyond the engineering lab and into the mass market."
