Taiwanese ODM (original design manufacturer) E-TEN has released an upgrade to its Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS receiver. The new G500+, the successor to the G500 introduced in January, features twice as much flash memory, plus an FM receiver...

that supports RDS functionality, according to the company.

The Windows Mobile 5.0-based G500+ runs the same 400 MHz Samsung processor with 64 MB of RAM as its predecessor, but has 256 MB of flash instead of 128 MB. This allows more map data to be stored internally on the device, without requiring the use of memory cards. The integrated FM radio with "advanced RDS" features an "intuitive interface," according to E-TEN, making it easy for users to search for local broadcasts.

E-TEN says it has bundled a pair of exclusive software applications with the G500+ to enhance the device's GPS functionality. The Satellite Data Update utility can shorten GPS positioning time to as little as 10 to 20 seconds by establishing a quick link to satellite records from E-TEN's own servers. And, the Location SMS application can be useful in emergency situations by sending the phone's GPS coordinates to any SMS-enabled phone with a single button press, according to the company.
