Applied PDA Software is giving away the baseline version of its Pocket PC data-acquisition software for free, and has lowered the price of the higher-end edition. PocketDAQ and PocketDAQ Pro support a variety of serial-, infrared-, and Bluetooth-interfaced peripherals, and run on Windows Mobile Pocket PCs, according to the company.

PocketDAQ supports a variety of peripherals communicating over serial, infrared, and Bluetooth interfaces, including barcode scanners, GPS receivers, sensors, scales, balances, RFID instruments, and other data loggers, according to Applied PDA. The Pro version offers advanced features such as:
        • Data logging (continuous or periodic)
        • Advanced filtering
        • Save configuration settings
        • Configurable Date/Time stamp
        • Collect data from multiple COM ports
Applied PDA director of business development Sebastian Dwornik said, "I believe this will enable an increased amount of people to utilize their PDA device as more then just a daily planner and contacts holder. Especially hobbyists and academics, as they do not always have the money to buy all of their software."

PocketDAQ Pro is now priced at $24.95, according to Applied PDA. Both versions support 5.0 and Windows Mobile 2002/2003 Second Edition, according to the company. A seven-day free trial is also available.
