Otovation has released a new version of hearing test audiometer based on a Pocket PC. The Pocket Hearo version 1.3 offers quick and accurate screening and threshold testing and has become a popular choice of audiologists, physicians, schools, and community health organizations, according to the company.

Pocket Hearo turns an iPaq Pocket PC into a Type 4 audiometer meeting the requirements of ANSI S3.6-1996, according to Otovation. Audio specifications include:
        • Eight frequencies -- 250, 500, 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, 6k, and 8k Hz
        • 0 to 90 db HL (80 db at 250 and 8k Hz)
        • +/- 1 db deviation
        • +/- 3 percent tone accuracy
        • Less than 1 percent total harmonic distortion, average is 0.4 percent
The company says the device supports full data capture and storage including a full range of identifying data for test subjects. Reports can be output to wireless printers via infrared or Bluetooth. Data can also be transferred to a desktop PC in the form of a spreadsheet-compatible .csv file for analysis.

Version 1.3 adds several new features, according to Otovation, including automatic rules-based calculation of Pass/Refer, the ability to preload records for volume testing, and support for several additional wireless printers.

The Pocket Hearo software is available with or without an iPaq Pocket PC. The company cautions that when purchasing software only, the target iPaq and headphones must be calibrated.
