Samsung Electronics, Fastmobile, and Komobile, have announced a joint agreement to develop and distribute multimedia Instant Messaging and Push-To-Talk (PTT) services based on Fastmobile's "fastchat" platform running on Samsung Pocket PC Phones. The first phase of the project has been commercially launched on Korea's CDMA network via Samsung's "anycall" website.

According to Fastmobile, fastchat enables presence-based Instant Communication Services and multimedia functionality such as text, picture, and video messaging, along with gaming, PTT, and business applications. Fastchat services, based on patent pending technology, operate globally on 2.5 and 3G mobile networks and enable users to communicate anywhere in the world, the company says.

Future releases will include embedded reference designs for use on both CDMA and GSM handsets, according to Fastmobile.
