Syware Inc. has released a "major" update to its software tool for writing and printing reports on Pocket PCs. Key new features in Report CE 5.0 include graphing (line graphs, bar graphs, pie charts), grouping/sub-totals, international numbers and currency, and a wizard for creating distribution files, Syware said.

Report CE 5.0, which now supports Windows Mobile 5.0, enables mobile workers to create invoices, sales reports, and customer quotes -- and print them -- directly from a Pocket PC, according to the company.

Report CE operates in conjunction with the company's Visual CE database and forms builder software for Pocket PC and Windows CE devices. Data can also come from applications developed with eMbedded Visual Basic, eMbedded Visual C++, or .NET. Reports are based on Visual CE, Microsoft Pocket Access, or (using Syware's sqlceEnable) SQL Server CE tables. For wireless access to server based data, Report CE also works with any desktop ODBC enabled table using Syware's mEnable, the company said.

Syware president Sy Danberg said, "Our experience with Visual CE developers has shown us that creating the runtime distribution version of a developed application can be a major stumbling block to deployment. The runtime wizard created for Report CE greatly reduces the time and frustration involved in this task."

        Availability

Report CE 5.0 is available in Personal and Professional editions from Syware's online store. Pricing is $79 for Personal, and $399 for Professional. Syware's related products -- Visual CE, sqlceEnable, and mEnable -- are sold both separately.
