These include a 312 or 520 MHz Xscale processor, for the 300X and 500X, respectively, instead of a 270 MHz processor; a rechargeable 6600 mAh lithium-ion battery, instead of a 3800 mA NiMH battery; and optional integrated 802.11b wireless capabilities.
The 300X has 64 MB of SDRAM and 256 MB of embedded flash memory; the 500X doubles that to 128 MB and 512 MB. Bluetooth connectivity is standard on the 500X, optional on the 300X. The TDS handhelds provide an SD slot and two CompactFlash slots which can be used for memory expansion or GPS, GPRS, a digital camera or bar code scanner. A 53-key keypad, quarter-VGA LCD screen, integrated speaker and microphone are also provided, along with a full complement of Pocket PC applications: Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, etc.
The latest Rangers measure 10.5 x 5.2 x 1.9 inches and weigh 2.1 pounds. In addition to meeting MIL-STD-810F environmental specs, the devices can endure accidental immersion in water for 30 minutes, thanks to an IP-67 sealing rating. Operating temperature range is -30 to +60 degrees C.
