        Pocket-sized rugged handheld runs Windows Mobile

        [Updated Feb. 15] -- Unitech is readying a new rugged handheld computer targeting applications in retail, hospitality, healthcare, sales automation, and field services. The PA600 runs Windows Mobile 5.0, is available with an integrated barcode scanner, and is compact enough to fit in a shirt pocket, according to the company.

        The PA600 is based on a 520 MHz PXA270 processor, and comes with 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of flash memory. The unit is a little light on wireless communication, with only IrDA and Bluetooth built in. 802.11b/g WiFi is available through the SDIO slot, however. An integrated 1D laser barcode scanner is offered as an option.

        Unitech lists the following key features and specifications for the PA600:

        Unitech says the PA600 is "VoIP ready," which should go along well with the built-in mic and speaker. A software development kit (SDK) is available for custom application development.

        The PA600 is shipping now priced at approximately 1,300 euros.
