One of the most frustrating aspects of mobile and wireless devices is text entry. Tiny keypads and/or strange layouts are a nuisance. WordLogic Corp. has an elegant software solution called a "Predictive Keyboard," which was recently featured in Windows Mobile Business News.

"WordLogic is a revolutionary new way to enter information on your Pocket PC without the use of strange keyboard layouts or extra hardware," says Windows Mobile Business News. "Its colorful and efficient interface saves you time and effort as you enter notes, tasks, appointments, and documents. WordLogic makes text entry simple and fun."

The display is a simplified QWERTY keyboard with the numbers and symbols hidden behind "sub-panels." As you type a word, the predictive algorithm highlights the five most likely letters to follow what has already been typed, as well as a list of the most frequent words beginning with those letters. Rather than having to scan the entire keyboard for the next letter, your attention is immediately drawn to the most probable next letters. The letters are highlighted in two colors, green indicates you should type another character and red indicates you should stop and select a word from the displayed list.

The result, according to WordLogic, is increased letter entry speeds. "Testing has shown that even beginners can input over 30 words per minute -- an improvement of 50% over alternative input methods," the company reports.

The WordLogic keyboard accepts many different types of dictionaries such as language, medical, and legal terms to perform its predictions. The system adapts to the user's vocabulary, enabling progressively more efficient text input. Additionally, the company can create custom dictionaries for specific uses. WordLogic claims a pending patent on its dictionary design.

The WordLogic software may be purchased directly from the company in any of several languages. The software supports all Pocket PC chipsets including: ARM (Compaq and others), MIPS (Casio), and the SH3 (HP). OEM licenses are also available.
