Sanyo announced a Windows CE-based projector that streams video via 802.11n wireless networking and is compatible with Windows Vista's Network Projector functionality. The "LP-WXU700" has 1280 x 800 resolution, 500: contrast ratio, 3,800 lumens, a USB reader, and a wide variety of video inputs, says...

Like many projectors aimed at schools and enterprises, Sanyo's LP-WXU700 can accept video from a wide variety of inputs. In this case, the device has an HDMI input, two separate VGA inputs, plus composite, S-Video, and component video inputs. Other wired interfaces, pictured below, include USB host and client interfaces, plus a RS232 control port.

The LP-WXU700's real party trick, however, is its ability to display still or video images streamed from a computer wirelessly, thanks to a built-in 802.11n network adapter. The 802.11n draft standard provides a raw (PHY) data rate of up to 600Mbit/sec., and TCP/IP throughput of about 110Mbit/sec.

Sanyo claims video playback -- presumably at the projector's maximum 1280 x 800 resolution, although this wasn't specified -- starts almost immediately and can continue without interruption. The company claims the device "eliminates the reliance on computers that might not have the specifications desired to show higher-quality video."

In addition to using wireless networking and the wired ports listed above, the LP-WXU700 can also display images stored on a USB stick or hard drive, according to Sanyo. The projector is also compatible with Windows Vista's Network Projector function, which communicates with projectors using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). By plugging a mouse and keyboard into the LP-WXU700's USB ports, users can control their computers directly from the projector, the company adds.

As noted above, the LP-WXU700 is said to run Windows CE, though Sanyo provided no information about the device's processor or memory complement. The unit has a manual zoom lens, remote control, 275 Watt light source, and works over distances from 40 to 300 inches, the company says.

Features and specifications listed by Sanyo for the LP-WXU700 include the following:
