According to Gao Research, users can submit a .wav file to the online demo and then adjust simulation parameters such as network jitter and packet loss, to assess the G.729AB algorithm.
"Customers always demand to sample the quality of a voice codec before they make the purchase," said Dr. Frank Gao, president. "We want to present a convenient method for our customers to accurately evaluate the fidelity of our codec under simulated network conditions. Customers can expect very similar results when our algorithm is implemented on their system."
According to
Wikipedia, G.729 is an audio data compression algorithm mostly used in Voice over IP (VoIP) applications for its low bandwidth requirement. Standard G.729 operates at 8 kbit/s, but extensions are available that operate at 6.4 and 11.8 kbit/s rates with marginally worse and better speech quality respectively. "Annex A" (G.729A) offers lower computational complexity in exchange for marginally reduced audio quality. "Annex B" (G.729B) is a "silence compression scheme " that deals with issues such as voice activity detection and discontinuous transmission whereby the transmitter may be powered down in the absence of voice. A G.729AB codec implements both Annex A and Annex B.
Gao Research says its codec line is fully optimized for the Texas Instruments TMS320C5000 and TMS320C6000 DSP families as well as the Analog Devices Blackfin processor family. Other supported platforms include ADSP21xx, ARM9, CEVA Teak and TeakLite, Intel XScale and Pentium, MIPS32 and MIPS64 cores, Freescale PowerPC, Renesas SuperH, and STMicroelectronics ST20 and ST40 cores.
