A Chinese automotive electronics maker serving domestic and international car manufacturers has built a Windows CE-based navigation, safety, and entertainment system into a rear-view mirror. Shenzhen Dsus's DS-400GB features a 4-inch touchscreen monitor, rear-view camera, Bluetooth, built-in speakers, multimedia playback, and...

        an SD expansion slot.

The device has a video input that allows connecting a rear-mounted camera. When a vehicle is put in reverse, the device's display automatically switches from showing GPS information to a live view of whatever is behind the car, according to the company.

Dsus says the device's 4-inch touchscreen, seen at the right in the above photo, has 480 x 272 pixel resolution. Two built-in speakers each have 1-Watt amplifiers. A Bluetooth radio can pair with a mobile phone for hands-free calling. There's also an "MP3/MP4" multimedia player, and an SD expansion card slot.

Other features are similar to more traditional automotive navigation devices. For instance, the DS-400GB packs the ubiquitous SiRF starIII chipset. Based on Windows CE 4.2, it has a Samsung S3C2440A processor clocked at 400MHz. Dsus omits word of how much RAM or flash storage the DS-400GB is equipped with.

Features and specifications that Dsus does provide include:
        • Processor -- Samsung S3C2440A clocked at 400MHz
        • Operating system -- Windows CE 4.2
        • Display -- 4-inch touchscreen with 480 x 272 resolution
        • I/O:
          • video input for rearview camera
          • connector for external antenna
          • speakers (2 x 1W amplification)
        • Expansion -- SD card
The DS-400GB appears to be available now. More information may be available from the company's website, here.
