        Reference design targets PXA270-based Windows CE handhelds

        iWave Systems Technologies has introduced a development platform aimed at handheld products based on the Intel PXA270 processor. The iW-RainboWG1 supports Windows CE 5.0 and is suitable for developing PDAs, smartphones, portable media players, gaming gadgets, and handheld point-of-sale devices, according to the company.




        The iW-RainboWG1 is powered by a 520 MHz PXA270, and it includes 64 or 128 MB of SDRAM and 32 or 64 MB of Flash memory. The reference platform unit comes with a 3.7-inch VGA touchscreen display, and it also includes a CMOS camera port that works with an optional VGA resolution camera module.

        iWave says it supports all peripherals under both Windows CE 5.0 and Linux 2.6.9. Additional software support includes a diagnostic suite and DSP libraries for JPEG and MPEG1/2/4.
