Based on a 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium M processor and equipped with up to 1 GB of DRAM, the small-footprint Barracuda is easily transportable and features flexible mounting options -- from a standard pedestal to a boom, pole, or custom panel mounting. Integrated with a sunlight-readable, 15-inch-diagonal LCD with 1024 x 768-pixel format and resistive touch-sensitive overlay, it is housed in a corrosion-proof NEMA-4, IP65-rated aluminum enclosure that can withstand shock, vibration, and other environmental extremes, Kontron says. Operating temperature range is 0 to 50 degrees C standard, -40 to +50 degrees C optional. A modular AC/DC sealed power supply is also standard.

The Barracuda is available in two configurations: the WS model provides a removable 2.5-inch hard drive or CompactFlash storage device; the DS model is a full military-hardened Mil-Std 810F and Protection Classification IP65-compliant computer. Both models provide a VGA graphics interface and USB port; the WS model adds a 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet port, a COM serial port, and a combination PS/2 mouse/keyboard port.

A second USB port and water- and dust-tight circular military-rated connectors are available for both models. Model WS options include a 15-minute UPS battery back-up and a built-in wireless LAN radio along with a high-gain wireless antenna.

Pricing on the Barracuda WS starts at $6500, with DS pricing available on request. Both models will start shipping in Q3 2007, according to the company.
