Amrel has released what it claims is the first fully rugged PDA in its size class to offer a 4-inch transflective touchscreen display with 480x640 resolution. The Patriot DA4-M PDA, which boasts a sunlight readable display, offers a choice of operating systems -- Windows CE .NET 4.2, supporting the full 480x640 screen...

The DA4-M is based on a 400MHz Intel PXA255 processor equipped with 128MB RAM and 64MB Flash. External ports include:
        • 2 USB -- 1 host standard connector, 1 mini-client connector
        • 1 RS-232 serial
        • 1 Type II PCMCIA card slot
        • 1 SDIO card slot
        • 1 Microphone/earphone jack
According to Amrel, the DA4-M is certified to MIL-STD 810F, making it resistant to rain, salt fog, humidity, extreme altitudes, vibration, and shock. Optional IP6 certification is also available, allowing the device to survive submersion in 1m (3ft) of water.

Amrel also claims that the DA4-M is the first PDA to include MIL-STD 461E electromagnetic emissions shielding as a standard feature. This was done in response to the increasing concern for security and reliability during mission critical field use. "Users of the DA4-M can be confident that interference from radio frequencies, magnetic fields and other disruptive electromagnetic emissions will not affect its performance."

The Patriot DA4 PDA is part of Amrel's line of "Customizable COTS" rugged mobile computers, and is available in both a military and industrial version.
