Symbol Technologies has added speech recognition to its MC9000 series of Windows CE based mobile computers. The MC9060-K and MC9060-S models are aimed at warehouse and distribution customers that require hands-free operation and voice-prompted applications, according to the company.

The MC9060 uses voice-directed logistics software from LucasSystems. Warehouse workers are able to move from task to task listening to instructions through a headset and communicating verbally with an existing enterprise resource planning system (ERP) or warehouse management system (WMS) over a wireless network, according to Symbol.

In addition to hands-free voice operation, Symbol says the MC9060 also supports barcode scanning, imaging, and keyboard input. The MC9060-K is offered with field replaceable 28-key numeric, 43-key shifted alphanumeric or 53-key full alphanumeric backlit keyboard options.

The MC9000 series rugged mobile computers run either Windows CE or Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC Phone Edition on an Intel PXA255 processor.

Details on Symbol's MC9000 series are available in this previously-published WindowsForDevices.com Device Profile:
